Following the success of Ford cars in India, particularly Ford Figo, the company has decided to start a major expansion drive by widening its distribution network and increasing the number of dealers to over 200 by the end of this fiscal year. Ford India has received more than 24,000 bookings after the launch of Figo in March 2010. Tier I,II & III cities were the ones that recorded the most success and accounted for more than sixty percent of sales.
Production has been started at the Maraimalainagar plant in Chennai which will shortly start catering to the increasing demands, with an aim to reduce the booking period & delivery time for consumers. The Figo has been a major revenue generator for Ford India, far exceeding the expectations of the company. Huge gains were registered in small & medium sized cities such as Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Bhopal, Jaipur, Rajasthan, Dehradun, Kanpur etc. This may be because the people from these cities are mostly middle class servicemen who prefer to buy small cars that fit into their budget and give a good mileage, fuel economy as well.
